Cumbria Tourism is stressing that the Lake District region has many other activities and events on offer this weekend after the postponement of the British Gas Great North Swim due to an outbreak of blue-green algae at Windermere.

Tuesday, 11th May 2010 – The British Gas Great Swim Series 2010 officially launches today, with Jodie Kidd and David Davies launching the series of five open water swimming events, kicking off this year in Suffolk on 19th June and ending in Salford on 26th September.
Last night (Tuesday 11 May), winners of the 2010 Cumbria Tourism Awards were revealed at a special ceremony in Penrith. Fighting off tough competition, the British Gas Great North Swim took home Gold for the Tourism Event of the Year 2010.
